CBK Central Baptist Kindergarten started in 1980 with 20 children in a small building under the church. This was in response to a gap in the community and was one of the first Education & Care centres outside of the Kindergarten movement.

A purpose built building was set up on our existing site in 1987. Initially there were morning sessions and then in 1988 to afternoon sessions followed by all day for those who wanted that option.

In 1999 the Kindergarten & Crèche Charitable Trust was established and in 2002 a centre for infants and toddlers [under two-year olds] was built on the same site.

KIDZ @303 opened in 2007 to work alongside the 303 Parent Support and Development pilot project. In 2008 20 hours ECE was introduced and in 2011 our new administration block was built.

CBK today is an integrated ECE hub with Early childhood education at the heart. Alongside are many ways in which parents can engage in a variety of activities and or programmes. These may be to do with parenting information and/or building on skills and strengths which can be shared in the CBK community and wider Whanganui community.

Today 23 teachers alongside families/whanau. SKIP, HIPPY and 303 Parent Support Centre have Coordinators facilitating these initiatives.
